Let, original length =l and width =w
so, perimeter = 2(l+w) = 26
⇒ (l+w) = 13 ------------ (i)
given that,
new width =3w
New length = l/4
A.T.Q.
l/4 = 3w
l = 12w ------------- (ii)
substituting the value of l in the equation, (i) we get,
12w+w = 13
⇒ 13w = 13
⇒ w= 1
so, l =12
So, the length of a side of the square = l/4 = 12/4 = 3 cm,
or 3w = 3×1 = 3 cm.
So, the perimeter of the resulting square = 4 × 3 cm = 12 cm
